How to recover the S/N of the 3656 base when the S/N sticker is missing?

There are three ways to recover the S/N of a 3656 base if the S/N sticker at the bottom has fallen off or the barcode label printed on it is unreadable.
I. If the 3656 base was bought along with a 156x cordless scanner in a kit, CipherLab can use the S/N of the scanner to trace the S/N of the 3656 base.
(Note: This is only for tracing the base that came in the same kit with the scanner.)
II. If the 3656 base was bought separately, or you cannot locate the scanner purchased with 3656, use the following method to retrieve the S/N:
1. Make sure your 3656 is using a USB cable. (Do not use a 307/308 cable)
2. Unplug the cable and power cord from 3656.
3. Plug in the cable and power cord.
4. Open Device Manager on your computer.
If 3656 is connected via USB HID, press the CapsLock key continuously until a COM port appears.
If 3656 is already connected through a serial port, skip this and go to step 5.
5. In HyperTerminal, set up a connection; type “Version” (case sensitive) and press Enter.
This step must be completed immediately (i.e. within 5 seconds) after the COM port is opened.
6. Firmware version and serial no. of your 3656 base will be shown. Use the serial no. to generate a barcode.
If nothing shows up, re-do step 2 to step 5 (in particular, speed up step 5).
7. Use the Set Connection barcode and the barcode you created to set up connection with your 3656 base.
III. Please refer to the attached tool. When you connect the 3656 cradle to the PC, the program will detect the cradle and generate the connection barcode again.
Please note that there's some limitation about this tool:
1. only 3656 via USB VCOM, HID or auto cable detection with USB cable can adopt this tool. Cradle with the RS232 or keyboard wedge cable still needs to be sent to RMA to deal with it.
2. the connection barcode is not the real S/N; you still need to use "show page1" to get the real S/N.
